Smart Waste Bins

Smart waste bins are equipped with sensors that monitor waste levels in real time, enabling more efficient collection routes and reducing unnecessary pickups. These bins help minimize overflow, cut down on operational costs and support cleaner, more sustainable urban environments.

Additionally, they can provide valuable data analytics to city planners for optimizing waste management strategies and future infrastructure improvements. They also encourage community engagement by promoting responsible disposal habits and increasing awareness of sustainable practices.

Smart waste bins represent essential step toward smarter cities that prioritize efficiency, sustainability and the well-being of their residents.

Current Waste Flow

All 264 items of waste end up in landfill, with most coming from trash and mixed waste. Recyclables are present but not yet recovered.

Optimization Opportunity

Better sorting reduces landfill waste to 145 items, recovering 119 items from mixed streams. Recycling potential grows.

Long-Term Goal

Waste becomes a resource: recyclables generate cash, soiled paper creates energy and other waste turns to compost moving toward a circular economy.

Waste Impact

The system generates 34.8 tons of waste per year, with most ending in landfill. Only a portion is recyclable or reducible, showing room for improvement.

CO₂ Impact

Waste creates 38.2 tons of CO₂ emissions annually, largely from landfilled plastics and trash. Better recovery can cut emissions significantly.
